Ryan Thomson

Associate
Ryan provides comprehensive and timely advice to large commercial clients and individuals in relation to litigation and dispute resolution matters.

As an associate in Cooper Grace Ward’s litigation and dispute resolution team, Ryan acts for companies and for individuals in a wide range of matters across jurisdictions in Australia, including contractual claims, property litigation and disputes, corporate fraud matters, negligence matters, consumer and competition disputes, and other various commercial disputes.

Before joining Cooper Grace Ward, Ryan worked in the projects and commercial team of a national law firm where he obtained experience in energy and resources litigation and insurance disputes, along with property transactions. Prior to that role, Ryan worked in the commercial litigation team of an international law firm where he assisted in professional liability and general commercial disputes.

Drawing on his broad experience, Ryan adopts a results‑oriented and commercial approach to accomplish clients’ objectives in litigation and dispute resolution.

Litigation

  • Advising and acting for a large resources company in relation to a significant mining lease application that was contested on climate change grounds
  • Assisting a shopping centre owner to successfully defend a case brought by a tenant alleging repudiation of a commercial lease in the Supreme Court of Queensland
  • Advising plaintiffs in corporate fraud disputes
  • Advising landlords and tenants in disputes arising from commercial and retail shop leases
  • Advising businesses in relation to alleged breaches of the federal competition and consumer legislation
  • Acting for insurers to defend insurance claims, including personal injury claims and property damage claims
  • Acting for both large corporate clients and businesses in contested and uncontested debt recovery proceedings
  • Advising property owners on body corporate related issues and disputes
  • Experience in advising and assisting both plaintiffs and defendants in proceedings in the Supreme, District and Magistrates Court in Queensland, interstate courts, and the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal
