Sophia Ousager

Associate
Sophia provides legal advice and support to domestic and international clients on corporate and commercial issues, including transactional matters, corporate governance, structuring acquisitions, disposals, lender and borrower finance, and a wide range of advisory work.

As an associate in Cooper Grace Ward’s corporate advisory team, Sophia provides legal advice and support to domestic and international clients on corporate and commercial issues, including transactional matters, corporate governance, structuring acquisitions, disposals, and lender and borrower finance. She undertakes a wide range of advisory work for individuals, corporate clients and charitable organisations.

Sophia has worked with a range of not-for-profit organisations, providing legal support and advice with respect to governance and compliance.

Sophia also has experience in defendant insurance.

  • Bachelor of Laws (Honours Class I) – University of Queensland
  • Bachelor of Arts – University of Queensland
  • Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice – College of Law
  • Solicitor – Supreme Court of Queensland
  • Member – Queensland Law Society
  • Preparing and negotiating complex commercial agreements, including stakeholder arrangements, acquisitions and disposals.
  • Advising on corporate governance, structuring and business planning.
  • Advising on a wide range of commercial agreements.
  • Advising on the establishment and restructure of charitable trusts to meet clients’ philanthropic needs.
  • Advising on trade marks and various intellectual property law matters, such as ownership of IP, licences to use and develop intellectual property, and confidentiality agreements.

 

Sophia has practical experience working for and within not-for-profit and non‑government organisations and research bodies, including:

  • fulfilling board positions on a number of human rights-focussed international bodies at the University of Queensland
  • The Asia Pacific Centre for the Responsibility to Protect
  • The Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds
  • Queensland South Native Title Service
  • Sea Shepherd Australia
  • pro bono initiatives through the University of Queensland, including the Climate Justice Initiative and parliamentary submission on behalf of Prisoners’ Legal Service
  • co-author of the University of Queensland Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld): A Guide to Rights Interpretation.
