Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers has implemented a Reconciliation Action Plan, a formal agreement with Reconciliation Australia to support Indigenous businesses and boost employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
Launched in October this year, the firm received an endorsement from Reconciliation Australia that recognises the firm’s leadership position to advance Indigenous business.
Commenting on the endorsement, Cooper Grace Ward’s managing partner, Chris Ward said the firm wanted to build better lives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and corporations.
“By partnering with Reconciliation Australia and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and businesses, we can help shape an Australia where Indigenous and non-Indigenous people share in an equal, vibrant and prosperous future”.
Ward commented that the Australian legal community plays a crucial role in the reconciliation process and Cooper Grace Ward is proud to be among those businesses who are taking action.
“We see the RAP as a way for our firm to advance reconciliation within our own sphere of influence,
being legal services in Queensland and across Australia.” He said.
The firm is a big supporter of diversity initiatives including an active diversity committee, wellness committee and an LGBTIQ+ support group.
The law firm is the recipient of several diversity awards including wining the Australasian Law Awards 2018 – Employee Health & Wellbeing Award and the Employer of Choice for Gender Equality by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) for 2018/2019.
