Managing Partner Chis Ward raises over $10,000 to aid the homeless

Congratulations to Cooper Grace Ward’s Managing Partner, Chris Ward, for raising over $10,000 to aid the homeless as part of his night out in the cold for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

On Thursday 21 June, Chris joined 143 other Queensland business leaders who spent a long, chilly night sleeping on the concrete floor of Southbank’s Suncorp Piazza to raise awareness and funding for Vinnies’ homeless services.

The annual event, which is run by the St Vincent de Paul Society, has so far raised $840,000 this year in Queensland alone, and almost $5 million nationally.

Chris’ efforts in raising more than $10,000 represented one of the highest amounts of money raised nationally by a single participant from a law firm.

Despite the rough sleeping conditions, Chris says he has greatly enjoyed the experience.

‘The Vinnies CEO Sleepout has really been a wonderful experience for me,’ Chris says.

‘It’s a great way for businesses to get together and help raise the profile of homelessness as well as raise some much needed funds for what truly is a very worthy cause.

‘I’ve learnt a lot about the hard work that Vinnies do to help homeless people across the country, as well as some disturbing truths about the extent of this issue in Australia,’ Chris says.

More than 100,000 Australians were counted as homeless in the last Census (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2006), including more than 25,000 children aged under 18 years.

All money raised from the Vinnies CEO Sleepout will go directly towards assisting Vinnies deliver ongoing homeless services across the country.
