Cooper Grace Ward recognised as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality

Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers has received a citation as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) for 2016.

Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers has received a citation as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) for 2016.

The firm has been commended by WGEA alongside around 100 other Australian employers that have been successful in receiving the citation, including 16 other law firms.

Managing Partner Chris Ward said Cooper Grace Ward was proud to accept the citation, which reflects the significance the firm places on fostering a flexible and supportive working environment for all team members.

‘Each industry has its own gender equality challenges, and the legal profession is no exception,’ he said.

‘It is only through the dedication and commitment of our team to recognise and address individual issues that we can improve outcomes for the benefit of all team members in terms of gender equality.’

Cooper Grace Ward offers a range of flexibility policies, including offering part-time and job share arrangements, telecommuting, virtualised desktops and flexible paid parental leave options. The firm is also an accredited Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace.

In 2015, Mr Ward joined a raft of other high-profile directors, CEOs and senior executives to be a Pay Equity Ambassador through WGEA, working to inspire and support employers to achieve equal pay for men and women.

WGEA Director Libby Lyons said the growing list of EOCGE citations indicated that the business benefits and competitive advantage gained by addressing gender equality in the workplace were becoming more widely recognised.

‘Employers increasingly recognise that equal participation by women and men at all levels of an organisation is good for workplace culture and performance,’ said Ms Lyons.

‘It is only through more employers taking the initiative to promote gender equality in the workplace that we will see the pace of change pick up.’

The EOCGE citation focuses on the key organisational behaviours that drive improved gender equality in Australian workplaces.

WGEA is committed to working collaboratively with leading organisations to demonstrate what is possible when employers commit to improving gender equality outcomes for women and men.
