Greg is widely regarded as being at the forefront of information, thought and knowledge on many aspects of banking and finance law and legislation. He has more than 30 years’ experience in this specialist area.

Greg leads the Cooper Grace Ward banking and finance workgroup.

His workgroup annually completes several billion dollars in loan transactions across all eight Australian states and territories. He has developed long standing ‘partnering’ relationships with the firm’s banking and finance clients, with many of the appointments enduring for periods of 10 to 30 years.

  • More than 30 years of specialist experience in banking and finance law.
  • A deep understanding of lending practices in all eight Australian states and territories, complemented by knowledge of underlying state and federal real and personal property laws (including the contract formation process, and titling regimes such as Torrens, old system, company title, and state land systems) of each jurisdiction.
  • Advice and assistance to banks and other national and international lending institutions on the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth), the use of the PPS Registry including ‘How To’ assistance on perfection of security interests across the wide ranges of collateral, and the consequences of getting it wrong. Advice on changes to the PPSR consequent upon the adoption of (most) of the Whitaker Report.
  • Advice and assistance to banks and other national lending institutions on the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (Cth), the National Credit Code including preparation of pro-forma NCC compliant loan documentation (credit contracts, guarantee agreements) and pre-contractual disclosure forms.
  • Advice and assistance to banks and other national lending institutions on limited resource borrowing arrangements under the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993 (Cth).
  • Advice and assistance (including redrafting standard documents) to banks and other national lending institutions on the impact of the Unfair Contracts Terms regime on loan and security contracts.
  • Advice and assistance to banks and other national lending institutions to draw standard terms and conditions documents for loan, guarantee and real estate and personal property mortgages for national use.
