Two senior members of Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers have been appointed to the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) Queensland Policy Committees. Both team members are from the firm’s property, planning and environment practice.
Leanne O’Neill, a partner in the practice, has been appointed to the UDIA Qld Planning and Environment Committee. As a committee member, O’Neill will provide thought leadership on effective planning and development assessment legislation processes, promote policies that protect the environment, and support economic growth though affordable housing. Along with the committee, she will also consider local and state government planning and environment policy and reform proposals, and recommend appropriate action.
Commenting on the appointment, O’Neill said she was delighted to be accepted. “I believe my legal experience in the planning and environment space makes me a natural fit for the committee, and I’m pleased to be part of the UDIA family.”
Meg Johnson, a special counsel in the practice has been appointed to the UDIA Qld Infrastructure Committee. Johnson will advise on all issues relating to infrastructure, including infrastructure charges, Local Government Infrastructure Plans and reviewing documents relating to the identification, planning and delivery of infrastructure across Queensland, including the State Infrastructure Plan.
Like O’Neill, Johnson was pleased to be selected. “My prior focus on Queensland and national infrastructure projects means I can make a valuable contribution to the UDIA and the various stakeholders involved in urban development in Queensland.”
The announcement was made at the Institute’s most recent board meeting held on 28 August, 2019.
Cooper Grace Ward’s property, planning and environment practice is no stranger to senior team members contributing to industry committees, with workgroup leader, Marcus Ford remaining an active executive council board member of the Property Council of Australia since 2012.
The UDIA is the peak body for all urban development related issues in Queensland and aims to support the development industry in creating world class communities.
O’Neill and Johnson will play a significant role in advising on important industry matters, advocacy and effective policy reform.
