Cooper Grace Ward is delighted to be one of the 98 organisations to achieve EOWA Employer of Choice for Women status for 2011.
The only Queensland-based law firm to have received the citation three years in a row, Cooper Grace Ward is one of 14 national Law firms and only 12 Queensland organisations to be awarded the EOWA Employer of Choice for Women certification.
Leading up to the 100 year anniversary of International Women’s Day on Tuesday, 8 March, EOWA Acting Director Mairi Steele acknowledged the importance of recognising those employers making their contribution to raise the status of women in Australian workplaces.
"Bolstering gender equality in workplaces is not just a social justice issue; these organisations represent smart business management. They are positioning themselves to attract and retain the best female talent in what is still a highly competitive market for skilled employees. Women now represent just over 50 per cent of university graduates and are a huge proportion of the talent pool," said Ms Steele.
Cooper Grace Ward Managing Partner Chris Ward said the firm had continued to monitor existing and introduce new initiatives to ensure it was a best practice culture first and foremost. This obviously includes the appropriate strategies and settings necessary to achieve the EOCFW citation. Achieving it for the third year running demonstrated this is not about ticking boxes but having long-term robust strategies to address the key issues.
"With 74 per cent of our team made up of female team members this is a very important, independent recognition for our achievements in developing a positive workplace culture supportive of all team members, particularly women," Mr Ward said.
"More than 2,500 organisations report to EOWA each year, so being one of the 98 successfully earning the certification means we’re in extremely good company."
The EOCFW citation is awarded to non-government organisations with more than 100 employees that have demonstrated they have policies and practices supporting women across the organisation, achieving positive outcomes for both women and the business.
The list of EOCFW organisations can be accessed on EOWA’s website and includes organisations from different industries and states and territories.
