Property, Planning & Environment
Marcus is the head of property development within the Property, Planning and Environment team of Cooper Grace Ward. He became a partner at Bain Gasteen in 1985, which merged with Cooper Grace Ward in December 2009.
Marcus has been actively involved in the development industry for more than 25 years. He currently serves on the Executive Council of the Property Council of Australia (Qld), and prior to that served on the Board of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (Qld) for six years before retiring in 2011.
In practice his areas of focus include:
- Strategic advice for property developers
- Large master planned communities, including commercial, retail and residential
- Infrastructure agreements and arrangements for master planned communities
- Community titles scheme developments, especially strategic formulation of the scheme
- Legal structures, including development agreements
- Complex tenders for acquisition of raw sites.
His focus is to provide legal advice of the highest calibre ensuring commercial and practical results. Marcus achieves these results through a commitment to strategic planning of his clients’ ventures, taking into account not only the myriad of legal issues but also the financial imperatives of his clients and the political issues they often face.
Being client-focused is paramount to the way Marcus practises. He remains accessible and approachable for all clients and ensures that the work implemented by his team is always under his direction, supervision and involvement.
