On 1 December 2009, Queensland-based law firm Cooper Grace Ward incorporated the team of Bain Gasteen Lawyers, creating a merged firm of more than 200 people.
Cooper Grace Ward’s managing partner Chris Ward said the merger was a vital step in Cooper Grace Ward’s continuing growth.
“Bain Gasteen is a highly respected Queensland firm and throughout our discussions with their partners, I have been impressed with the relationships they have with their clients and their team members,” Ward said.
“This merger brings together two highly experienced firms and significantly increases our footprint in the Queensland legal marketplace, while at the same time boosting our portfolio of services and support for our clients.
“With a team of more than 160 people, Cooper Grace Ward was already one of the largest players in the Queensland marketplace but this move will see us positioned at the forefront of Queensland commercial law firms.”
Bain Gasteen managing partner Marcus Ford said the merger opened up new possibilities for Bain Gasteen clients and team members.
“I’ve always been very proud of the achievements of our firm in partnership with our clients, and I’m excited about the new opportunities available to us through the merger with Cooper Grace Ward,” Ford said.

Bain Gasteen has more than 20 years’ experience servicing Queensland’s corporate and business community, and the firm’s clients include some of Australia’s largest financial and insurance institutions.
From December 2009 to February 2010, the merged firm traded as Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers(incorporating Bain Gasteen) and afterwards as Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers.
The merger announcement came within weeks of Cooper Grace Ward’s expansion into a 4,300m2 tenancy at 400 George, the new five-star eco building in the North Quarter Precinct of Brisbane’s CBD.
