Cooper Grace Ward expands property team to 35 with 8 new hires

They bring extensive knowledge and experience to Cooper Grace Ward, having advised on an impressive array of property transactions and projects, as well as complex litigation matters.

Brisbane-based commercial law firm Cooper Grace Ward has announced it has integrated a team of eight into its property service offering, growing the team to 35 and cementing the firm’s position as having one of the leading property practices in Queensland.

The new property lawyers will join Cooper Grace Ward from national firm Barry Nilsson.

The team of eight includes partner Clive Nichol, special counsel Freeda Stevenson, associate Michael Donnelly and lawyer Angela Sheehy, supported by paralegals Laura Cottrell, Melissa Crosby and Rebecca Escobar, and legal assistant Skye Nicholson.

Together, they bring extensive knowledge and experience to Cooper Grace Ward, having advised on an impressive array of property transactions and projects, as well as complex litigation matters.

Partner Clive Nichol is known across Australia as a leading property lawyer with extensive experience in retail leasing and management, combined with unique expertise in airports and aviation-related matters.

Freeda Stevenson has specialised in property law for over 20 years and is an expert in acquisition and disposals, development of community title properties and marinas.

Michael Donnelly will bring his negotiation skills and knowledge of general commercial matters.

Angela Sheehy advises on a range of property development and commercial property transactions.

The team regularly works with major shopping centre owners, property developers, private commercial properties, SMEs, franchisors, marina operators and the growing aviation industry.

Partner Clive Nichol is excited for the change and commented: “My team and I are joining Cooper Grace Ward’s already very strong property and commercial team and we are all looking forward to the support, opportunities and benefits that will come with that.”

“I actually began my law career in Australia (after 5 years in London) with Cooper Grace Ward 27 years ago, so in a way I’m coming back to where it all began.”

The firm’s managing partner Chris Ward said: “From Cooper Grace Ward’s perspective, we are extremely pleased to have Clive returning to the firm and bringing a strong team with him, giving us the opportunity to significantly enhance our property practice across Australia.”

“With the addition of eight new team members, we now have 35 people who can bring the expertise our clients need, in combination with our corporate, workplace relations, banking, insurance, litigation and private client practices.”

“We were also grateful for the support of Barry Nilsson in the transition of Clive and his team to Cooper Grace Ward.”

“Strategically it came at a time when Barry Nilsson is creating a more focused service offering so the transition makes good business sense for both our firms.”
