Media release: Conference to deliver hands-on guidance with SMSF changes

The 2016 Budget saw many highly anticipated changes announced to Australia’s superannuation rules, and help is at hand for advisers eager to keep abreast of the implications for their clients.

The 2016 Budget saw many highly anticipated changes announced to Australia’s superannuation rules, and help is at hand for advisers eager to keep abreast of the implications for their clients.

Brisbane law firm Cooper Grace Ward will host its Annual SMSF Conference on Thursday 23 March at the Mercure Hotel Brisbane and will cover a range of issues designed to provide advisers with the most up-to-the-minute knowledge on all aspects of legislation relating to SMSFs.

Building on the success of previous years, this year’s event has been expanded to include an ‘SMSF Back to Basics’ session, designed to give a grounding on the rules that apply to SMSFs.

This will be followed by an intensive afternoon covering the 2016 Budget changes, using case studies to illustrate the impacts on estate planning and how advisers must change their approach.

Cooper Grace Ward partner Scott Hay-Bartlem said the event would be a ‘must-attend’ for those working in the SMSF space.

‘Feedback from previous years has told us how beneficial it is for advisers to receive hands-on guidance on the complex issues surrounding SMSFs,’ Mr Hay-Bartlem said.

‘With that in mind, we have expanded this year’s conference to ensure we cover all the fundamental issues advisers are facing in 2017, as well as providing the option to undertake our new “back to basics” session.’

Mr Hay-Bartlem said the 2016 Budget saw highly anticipated changes announced to the superannuation rules. This legislation is now in place and has a 1 July 2017 start.

‘At the SMSF Conference, we will analyse the changes brought by the measures, the impact on how we use superannuation and SMSFs, and new solutions to retirement planning,’ he said.

The Annual SMSF Conference will be accompanied by the Adviser Training Day on Friday 24 March, which is an intensive full-day conference covering a range of topics designed to assist professional advisers in the issues they face on a day-to-day basis.

Both the Annual SMSF Conference and the Adviser Training Day will feature presentations from lawyers specialising in tax, revenue, superannuation, estate planning, workplace relations and other areas of commercial law.

Guests will have the option to attend one, two or all three segments of the two-day event.
