Everything you need to know about employment law

Covers the legal issues arising from the whole of the employment relates from advertising through to dismissal. It aims to identify the legal aspects and common mistakes and provides practice answers based on experience and case law.

Recruitment, selection and performance management

Provides a detailed “how to” guide on the process of recruitment, selection and performance management and the legal issues that must be taken in to account in dealing with each area. A very practical course designed to teach you the technical skills such as drafting job descriptions and developing KPIs.

Counselling, discrimination and termination

A comprehensive guide to the legal issues to be aware of and the practical process to be followed when performance managing and terminating staff. It is an in-depth look at what you can and cannot do, the common mistakes, how to overcome them and the behaviours that justify dismissal. You will develop practical skills in counselling, discipline and participating in the conciliation process.

Discrimination and workplace harassment

Explains the legislation surrounding discrimination and workplace harassment. It spells out the employer’s obligations, liabilities and risks and the potential consequences for failing to deal with these issues. We review the procedures and process for a complaint. You will develop the skills and practical solutions to dealt with the issues including implementing policies, carrying out investigations, dealing with difficult people and participating in a conciliation conference.

Enterprise bargaining and workplace agreements

Covers a wealth of material about enterprise bargaining, workplace agreements and industrial law. Participants will gain an understanding of the legal obligations and processes in the bargaining process. You will also understand and experience the negotiation process including how to deal with joint consultative committees, single bargaining units, unions, protected action, and generally how to capture the hearts and minds of your employees.

Managing an injured worker’s claim

A practical guide to the workers’ compensation claims process and what part you as the employer should play in the process. We will cover the statutory claims process and appeals through the common law damages phase and what you can do to reduce the amount of the claim. The competing interests of your WH&S obligations versus dismissing an injured employee prior to finalisation of the claim will be covered as will, dismissing an employee for incapacity.

Safety in your business

An in-depth look at Queensland’s workplace health and safety legislation, the employer’s obligations and what you must do to comply. Risk management procedures and how to implement them will be explained. You will also develop the practical skills to carryout the risk assessments and control process. We will also take a close look at the prosecution process.

Conflict resolution

The key to conflict resolution is communication and negotiation. This workshop will provide you with the resources, skills and understanding necessary to effectively communicate, negotiate and deal with conflict. This important topic covers the essential elements of conflict resolution including dealing with difficult people.
