
Family Law
Kay Feeney is a special counsel in our family law group. She practises exclusively in family law and is a Queensland Law Society Accredited Family Law Specialist. She practises in all types of family law matters.
Kay began her career as a teacher and later completed a Bachelor of Laws with Honours. She was admitted as a solicitor in Queensland in 1985.
Kay was appointed to the Social Security Appeals Tribunal in 1995, to the Child Support Agency as a child support review officer in 1997 and to the Migration Review Tribunal in 2001. This work has strengthened Kay’s expertise in these difficult areas, which overlap with family law work in many cases.
Kay is a regular presenter of seminars on a range of topics to lawyers undertaking continuing professional development, and she has also lectured at Queensland University of Technology in respect of spousal maintenance.
Kay participates in the Griffith University mentoring program and has been a mentor to students in the College of Law Masters program in 2009. Kay volunteers her time for the Schools and Community Education Service through the Queensland Law Society. She is involved with Suited to Success which assists disadvantaged women to obtain work.
In 2008 Kay co-authored the CCH Australian Master Family Law Guide chapter 'Child Support and Maintenance', following a series of significant amendments to the child support system in Australia.
In 2009 she commenced a Masters of Law at Bond University, with a particular focus on strengthening her interest in mediated or collaborative outcomes for parties.
