Heinz is a partner in our commercial workgroup and specialises in employment and workplace relations. With more than 18 years of experience in employment and workplace relations, Heinz is widely regarded as a leading practitioner in this field.

He has worked with major corporations such as Bechtel Australia, Boral, Williams Corporation, Thiess, Warner Brothers, Tyco International, Suncorp, Workpac and Jupiters. He provides strategic advice and representation in a myriad of industrial relations matters, including:

  • Negotiating and settling enterprise bargaining and workplace agreements
  • Strategic business restructuring advice
  • Issues of outsourcing and transmission of business strategic advice
  • Defences to Workplace Health & Safety Act prosecutions
  • Defending unfair dismissal proceedings
  • Wrongful termination at common law
  • Redundancy related advice
  • Advising and appearing in industrial disputes
  • Professional mediating of disputes
  • Discrimination proceedings
  • Bullying and workplace harassment.

He has considerable experience as a lawyer and advocate, appearing in the Federal Court of Australia, Federal Magistrates Court, The Australian, New South Wales and Queensland Industrial Relations Commissions, the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission and the Anti Discrimination Tribunal Queensland.

Heinz also teaches Workplace Law to final year students at Griffith University. He has also had significant experience in industry associations and therefore a wide and varied exposure to workplace relations.
