Queensland Civil & Administrative Tribunal

Earlier this month, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh announced the Government’s plan to amalgamate the State’s various administrative review tribunals into a body called the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Currently there are over twenty separate Tribunals operating in Queensland. They consider a variety of issues including Anti-Discrimination, Building disputes, Racing appeals, Property Agents and Motor Dealers, Guardianship and Administration and Retail Shop Lease disputes.

The new plan involves creating one single Tribunal to handle all of these various matters. The purpose is to simplify the review system and reduce inefficiencies caused by the various Tribunals.

The Government has appointed former Justice the Honourable Glen Williams to implement the plan. The Government aims to have the new Tribunal up and running by the second half of 2009.
